Concept Phase

Prototype Plan

Originally, our game idea was a top-down, alt control endless runner co-op, where there would only be one chair instead of two. Player 1 (P1) would sit in the swiveling chair to tilt left and right for horizontal movement and press a button to collect the cows, while Player 2 (P2) would coordinate activating the beam by spinning the chair a full revolution. Below are two of our first prototypes as we began to conceptualize what kind of game we wanted to create.

Art

Since we were making an arcade game, we were heavily inspired by classic arcade art styles that were mainly centered around 2D Pixel art. We created mood boards of game and art inspirations for what we wanted the tone and atmosphere of our game to look like, and once those were compiled, we created an art style manual to reference for consistency.

Final Idea

From more brainstorming, discussion, and feedback, we finally were more solid on creating an endless runner co-op game with two chair controllers. When thinking about chair controls, we considered how perhaps two people controlling one chair may end up too chaotic, as the person sitting in the chair may not want to be spun around and get dizzy, and the person rotating the chair might feel like their task is a bit mundane/gets repetitive. Having two separate chairs could make the gameplay feel more balanced and the tasks more clear to the players.
